As an entrepreneur, you are the boss. You set your own hours and working days, a luxury those with a traditional 9-5 lifestyle typically do not get to experience. However, those same benefits can come with some demanding work. Time-management skills are definitely a requirement.

In the exciting life of an entrepreneur, no day is the same. For instance, you could need to coordinate and lead meetings, develop business strategies, and deal with any customer or client concerns. Among a whole host of other commitments and responsibilities. Finding ways to get it all done can seem like da daunting task, however, here are some practical ways to help you tackle that to-do list.

1. Delegate

It can be difficult to let off the reins as an entrepreneur. You have put your heart and soul into your business and it can be daunting to let someone else come in and handle it. However, you can easily delegate to somebody rather than trying to carve out a few minutes every day just to complete one 30 minutes task. Here are some delegation strategies you can use.

2. Set Limits

Put time limits and schedule task that can tend to lead to distractions and cause a loss in productivity. Designate a 5 to 10-minute block of time for emails. Use mailbox features and settings to organize emails into designated folders that need further attention and create filters to keep distracting emails from showing in your main view. Have a separate time designated for replying to emails that you’ve already pre-sorted.

“The modern entrepreneur knows how to use technology to save precious minutes and invaluable hours every day.”

3. Use Technology

Technology has become a big part of almost every business. There are countless apps and software that help to automate aspects of your business and as a result get you the most time out of your day. Here are a few options to check out.

  • TimeTree
  • Asana
  • Slack
  • Todoist
  • Evernote
  • Trello
  • 1Password
  • LastPass

Your cell phone can tend to be a lifeline for some, especially for entrepreneurs. But don’t let your phone be a distraction. Keep focused on the task at hand and use your phones settings/features like “Set Focus” and “Do not Disturb” which are fully customizable and quickly toggled on/off.

4. The Pomodoro Technique

This technique uses time-pressure, in order to help you focus on a single task, helping you work at peak efficiency and record more progress.

Start on a single task, with the target of completing it within 25 minutes, or completing a healthy percent of it in 25 minutes (if you know all of it can’t be done in such little time). Only work on that task for the 25 minutes. Take a rest of 5 minutes once your 25 minutes run out, and repeat the 25 minute cycle.

5. Hire a Virtual Assistant

As your business grows, so do the bigger responsibilities that require your full focus. However, the smaller tasks like coordinating meetings, managing email and social media accounts and drafting/proofreading documents, still need to happen. This is where hiring a virtual assistant comes into play.

Instead of paying a full-time assistant salary (which can be a lot), you can easily hire a virtual assistant on an as needed or regular basis, for a much smaller fee.
